Doyce McKown, 84, of Fort Smith, Arkansas died Monday, February 16, 2004. She was born December 15, 1919, in Hartford to Lou Ella and Griffith H. Babb. She was a long time resident of Fort Smith moving here from Hartford following gaduation, and was a retired receptionist for Mitchell Portrait Studio.

Doyce was a member of Temple Baptist Church , past Matron of Hartford Chapter No. 292, then affiliated with Liberty Chapter No. 402, Order of the Eastern Star, past Worthy High Priestess of Olive Branch Shrine, White Shrine of Jerusalem, and past mother advisor of Faith Assembly of the Rainbow for Girls. She was a 66-year member of Eastern Star, former grand representative of Arkansas Grand Chapter, and the recipient of the Grand Cross of Color for Rainbow, which is the hightest honor conferred upon an adult.

She is survived by one sister, nine nieces and nine nephews for whom she provided love, compassion and laughter throughout their lives, and many great-nieces and great-nephews.

She ws preceded in death in 1981 by her husband, Joe H. McKown, as well as one brother and three sisters.

The funeral was held at 10 a.m. at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. J. Elton Pennington and the Rev. Neal Johnston officiating with burial at Forest Park Chapel under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
