Gerald "Jerry" Charles Verkuilen, of Appleton, age 70, passed away Thursday evening after a short stay at St. Elizabeth Hospital.

Jerry was born on October 15, 1943 in Wausau, Wisconsin to his parents Henry and Ethel (Belling) Verkuilen.

He was united in marriage to Rose Ann (VanStraten) Verkuilen on April 15, 1967.

Jerry served his country in the US Marine Corps from 1962-1965. He worked in the printing industry most of his life. Jerry enjoyed all sports, especially the Brewers, Packers, Badgers and car racing. Jerry also enjoyed spending time with his family by playing many card games, particularly cribbage and attending Brewers games.

He is survived by Rose Ann Verkuilen and their daughter, Vannessa (Gilbert) Desantos, two granddaughters; Chelsey (fiancé Brian Young) Desantos and Leah Desantos and Brad, and one great-grandson Joseph. Jerry is survived by siblings; Tom Verkuilen of Suamico, Mary (Jack) Smith of Darboy, and Suzie (Mike) Treviranus of Sun Prarie Wisconsin as well as many nieces and nephews. Brother and sister in laws; Julie and John Schmidt of Menasha, Bridget and Dennis Welch of Greenville, Pete and Terri Van Straten of Duluth, Minnesota, Toby Sasse of New London, Cathy and Kevin Mrasak of Titusville, Florida.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his grandmother, Viola Winarski, mother and father-in-law Robert and Dorothy (Johnson) VanStraten.

Memorial services for Jerry will be held at 6:00PM on Sunday, March 23, 2014 at Valley Funeral Home, 2211 N. Richmond St Appleton with the Rev. Landon Churchill officiating.

A gathering of friends and family will take place from 4:00PM until the time of service.
