Elsie and Oye Bowland were married in October, 1909. When Elsie was three years old, her family moved to a farm 5 1/2 miles west of Maitland. She lived almost all her life on this farm.
Elsie and Oye are the parents of nine children:
Cora Alice (Evans) Baxter, Albert Lee, Maurice Edmond, Mildred Lorene (Harold) Davison, Glenn Allen, Francis Lynn, Donna Mae (Darrell) Heck, Eva Lucille (Willis) Zachary, and Kenneth Roy.
They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversay in 1959. Oye passed away in July, 1970. Elsie moved to Tiffany Heights, and later passed away in 1982.

MAITLAND-Services for Elsie May Bowland, 92, were held Thursday at the Maitland United Methodist Church where she was a member.

Mrs. Bowland, a native and lifelong resident of Maitland, died April 13, 1982, at Tiffany Heights in Mound City.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Oye H. Bowland in 1970, and is survived by four sons, Lynn Bowland, Maitland, Maurice E. Bowland, Mound City, Albert Lee Bowland, Minneapolis, MN, and Kenneth R. Bowland, Skidmore; four daughters, Alice Baxter, Mount Vernon, Wash., Lorene Davison, Tarkio, MO, Donna Mae Heck and Lucille Zachary, both of Maitland; 16 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren.

Burial was in the Maitland Cemetery. Johnson Funeral home of Maitland assisted with the arrangements.
