MONTEREY - Janice Hodgen, 82, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on Sunday, February 8, 2009 at her home. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Robert "Bob" Hodgen.
A resident of Monterey for more than 60 years, Janice was born in Panguitch, Utah, the middle child in a family of 16 children. She married Bob, a World War II pilot, in August 1944 and moved with him to the Monterey area after he completed his air corps service. Bob built a house for her in Monterey where they raised two daughters, and always welcomed with joy their grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Janice was a creative homemaker and expressed that side of herself in her beautifully maintained house and lovely garden, and the landscape paintings that hang in the homes of her family. She also had a passion for ballroom dance and spent nearly every Saturday night on a dance floor with Bob until his ill health kept them away.
Janice is survived by her daughters, Mary (Ken) Brown of Sierra Vista, AZ, and Joanne (Steve) Crosta of Davis. She will also be missed by her grandchildren, Scott (Amber) Brown, Chad (Jessie) Brown, Peter Crosta and Morgan Crosta; and her quintuplet great-grandchildren, Cheyenne, Crystal, Gabriel, Garrett and Gavin Brown, and newborn great-grandchild, Skyler Brown.
A celebration of life will take place in early April. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Central Coast Visiting Nurse Associa-tion and Hospice Foundation, P.O. Box 2480, Monterey, CA 93942 or online at www.ccvna.com.
