Benjamin F. Buckbee was the son of John Buckbee and Elcie George. He was born 1852-1854 West Virginia. In 1869 his father moved his family near Meigs County, Ohio for about one year. They moved from Ohio to a farm 3 miles southeast of St. Joseph, Missouri. In about one year they again moved - this time to a farm near Topeka, Kansas and finally settling in Ellsworth Kansas.

Benjamin married on the 14th of April, 1882 in McPherson, Kansas to Laura J. Tolle. Laura was the daughter of Joel L. Tolle and Mary V. Nichols. Laura's date of death is listed as April 17, 1883 McPherson, Kansas (findagrave memorial). Ben and Laura had one child-a daughter, Eva Jean Buckbee. California death index lists Eva's birth as April 21, 1883 Kansas and death as June 19, 1959. Eva married James Turner June 24, 1901 in Omaha, Nebraska. On the marriage record Eva lists her parents as Benjamin Buckbee and Laura Tolle. California death index lists her mother's maiden name as Tolle and father's surname as Burkee. In the 1885 Kansas State Census after Laura's death, Benjamin and daughter Eva were living with Laura's parents. There is a discrepancy in the date of death for Laura (17 Apr 1883) and date of birth for daughter Eva (21 Apr 1883).

By 1890 Benjamin was living in St. Joseph, Missouri. He married Mary E. Johnson - June 9, 1892- St. Joseph, Missouri. In 1898 Benjamin and his brother John D were living at 910 Concord and both worked for LH&P Co.-listed in the City Directories. Benjamin was living at the same address in the 1900 census-about one year before he died.
