His father, Josiah was born in the state of New York about 1795-his date of death is unknown. His mother, Margaret was the daughter of Daniel Canfield, Revolutionary War Soldier from New York. Margaret was born 1803 in Randolph, WV and died 1854 in Lewis County, WV.

John married Elizabeth Elsey George on September 29, 1845 Pendleton, West Virginia. Elsey was the daughter of James George (1787 VA-Unknown) and Margaret Engle (1796 VA-1872 WV).

The Oregon Mist; February 15, 1907

"John Buckbee, of Bachelor Flat, died on Friday last of heart trouble. He was the father-in-law of J. Despains, with whom he had lived for several years. Mr. George Case, a neighbor, came to Rainier Friday to make arrangements for the funeral, which took place Sunday last. Mr. Buckbee was laid to rest by the side of his wife, who died several years ago. They were both former residents of Rainier."
