Michael Looney was born in Mountain Ash, South Wales, on Oct 19, 1861. When a boy four years old, he came to America with his parents, Mr and Mrs Thomas Looney. The family first settled in Illinois. In 1869, they moved onto a farm in Blu Hill township which Mr Looney took as a homestead. Michael spent his boyhood on that farm. On November 22, 1884, he was married to Addie Galbraith. For a time they lived in Blue Hill and in 1895 moved onto their farm in Baldwin, which is on Old Trunk highway No. 18 and six miles south of this village, where they have since made their home.
Mr Looney helped organize school District 50 and for many years was a member of that board. He was serving that capacity when the brick schoolhouse five miles south of this Village was erected.
Mr Looney is survived by his wife Adeline, two sons and six daughters. The sons are John, Zimmerman, Alfred, who has been of his parents conducting the farm. The daughters Mary(John) Beard, Winterset, Iowa, Margaret (Fred) McKim, of Norwood, MN, Delia (William) Beard, Truro, IA; Agnes (Harry) Swanson of Zimmerman, Frances (George) Kaliher of Northville, Michigan, and Stella (Russell) Benson of Chicago. He is alos survived by two brothers, David, of Onamia, and Thomas of Minneapolis, three sisters; Margaret (George) Stunden of Gauarequre, Ontario, Canada, Mrs Herman Haffored of Forest lake; and Roy (Elizabeth) Carter of Zimmerman.
Funeral services were held in the Zimmerman Episcopal Church. Burial in Oak Knoll Cemetery.
