HARTLAND – Maxine (Tapley) Badger, 97, went to be with the Lord July 14, 2014. She was born April 12, 1917 in Blaine, a daughter of E. Hale and Amber (Rees) Tapley. She graduated from Aroostook Central Institute in Mars Hill and the Houlton Business College.

In 1937 she moved to Hartland where she worked in the Furbush Law Office, and at the Snowflake Canning Co. She was a member of the Outlook Club, a 25 year member of the St. Albans Grange and the Matrons Circle. In 1940 she married Halver Badger and moved to Palmyra where she became president of the PTA, Union Church secretary, and treasurer of the Somerset Farm Bureau. She also belonged to the Christmas Club and the Palmyra Grange where she participated in social and stage plays.

In 1951 she moved to Pittsfield where she worked in the Newfel Dental Office, served as a nutritionist for the Head Start program, and worked in the school cafeteria. She was a member of the Pittsfield First Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir, served on the Social Committee and belonged to the White Cross group.

In 1969 she moved back to Hartland where she became a member of the First Baptist Church there, serving in various offices, and was an active member of the Missionary Group. She also worked for the Dexter Shoe Company, retiring in 1976. Maxine enjoyed her flowers, family, friends and shopping. She enjoyed traveling with their camper from the coast to Moosehead Lake.

She is survived by her husband of Hartland; 4 sons and their wives, Adrian (Sherri Saum) of Enterprise, AL, Roderick (Jo-Ann Owen) and Keith (Brenda Dore), both of Hartland, and Kermit "Topper" (Darlene) of St. Albans; 8 grandchildren; several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her parents, her brothers, Keith and the Rev. Bert Tapley, daughter in law, Barbara Badger, sister in law Kay Tapley, grandson Michael Badger, and brother in law Darrell Badger.

At her request, there will be no visiting hours. A Graveside committal service will be held 10 A.M. Friday, July 18th, at the Pine Grove Cemetery, Hartland, with Pastor David Michaud officiating.
