Miss Alice Nutter was wrongfully convicted of witchcraft with no evidence to prove her guilt. She was found guilty after a two day trial. She was executed by hanging with eight others on August 20th, 1612 in Lancaster, Lancashire, England. She was laid to rest and buried in Newchurch-in-Pendle in the Nutter Family section of the cemetery. The local community raised money to create a statue in loving memory of Alice Nutter. The money was raised by the local Catholic church and its members.
