Major League Baseball Player. He broke into the major leagues with the Cleveland Indians in 1959, but the left-handed-hitting first baseman was traded during the off-season to Cincinnati, along with second baseman Billy Martin and pitcher Cal McLish for All-Star second baseman Johnny Temple. He hit .287 with 26 homers and 87 RBIs as the Reds pull a shocker by vaulting from sixth place to win the 1961 National League pennant. The following year he batted .277 with 28 homers and 86 RBIs. He had a .273 lifetime average with 98 homers and 387 RBIs for his nine-year career. He then became head of the club's speaker's bureau until his death. He also was in the Reds' television booth from 1990 until his passing. He is a member of the Reds' Hall of Fame.
