Pansy Lorine 'Pat' Tracy Baker
(October 14, 1925 - June 23, 2014)

Pansy "Pat" Lorine Baker passed away June 23, 2014 at 12:05 a.m. after a brief illness.

Pat was born October 24, 1925 to Ernest and Mae Tracy in Galena, Kansas.

Pat was a lifelong resident of Galena and the Galena area. Mae and Ernest lost their spouses in the 1919 flu epidemic. When they were married Mr. Tracy had 3 daughters and Mrs. Tracy had 2 sons. They eventually had seven children and Pansy was the 2nd child from this union.

Pat married Calvin L. Baker, Sr on February 28, 1941 in Columbus, Kansas. They made their home in Galena.

Pansy and Calvin had 4 children: Calvin Leon Baker, Jr.; Carol Ann Baker; Danny E. Baker; Merle David Baker.

Pat was very proud of having all four of her children attend and graduate from the Galena schools. All four of her children attended Spring Grove Elementary School. During the years her children attended Spring Grove, Pat was very active in the PTA and she held several offices including president. She and many of the other mothers made many beautiful floats for the Christmas Parades that were held in the different cities in the tri-state area.

In her younger years Pat was primarily a homemaker. She was known as an excellent cook and everyone enjoyed her foods. Throughout the years Pat worked for Party Steak, Sears Roebuck and Company, and as an election poll worker. She last worked with the Galena Green Thumb program at Southeast Kansas Nature Center in Schermerhorn Park, the Galena Museum and the Meals on Wheels Program. She also provided daycare to her great-grandchildren when each of them were born. She was active at the Galena Christian Church.

Pansy loved to travel and was able to spend time with her sons and their families in Colorado and California throughout the years. Pansy also made several trips to North Carolina to visit with her brother and his family.

Pansy was preceded in death by her husband Calvin L. Baker, Sr. in November 1973; her sisters Myrtle, Hazel, Mary, Violet and Francis Tracy; brothers Clifford and Bill Lamb, Ernest Leroy, Donald (Donny), and Bobbie Tracy; granddaughter Melissa Baker and great-grandson Cassidy (Cass) Baker.

She is survived by her children Calvin and wife Wanda (Wammack) Baker, Sunnyvale, CA; daughter Carol Baker of Galena, KS; Danny and wife Leanna (Gowens) Baker of Fremont, CA; and Merle and wife Dianna (Bartlett) Baker of Galena, KS.
