Jane M. Appleby was born on a farm near Osterdock, in Clayton county, Iowa, November 29th, 1869, and when a child her family came to Delaware county and located on a farm near Sand Spring, where she grew to young womanhood. Her marriage to H.S. Gearhart occurred in the Globe hotel in Manchester on April 18th, 1892. Since her marriage Mr. and Mrs. Gearhart have resided on farms in Delaware, Dubuque and Jones counties. Four years of their married life was spent in Cass county, Minnesota. For some fifteen years Mr. and Mrs. Gearhart had made their home in Manchester, the former operating a service station on South Fifth street.

Mrs. Gearhart is survived by the husband, one son, Hiram Gearhart, of Belvidere, Illinois; three sisters, Mrs. Theo. Decker, of Cascade; Mrs. Mary McVey, of Worthington; Mrs. Hattie Good, of Rock Island, Ill.; three brothers, John Appleby of Monticello; Harrison Appleby of Hopkinton; and Joe Appleby of Castle Grove.
