Mr. Smith was a retired maintenance worker for Ford Motor Co. in St. Louis, where he had worked for 30 years. He was a member of Church of God Holiness in St. Charles and United Auto Workers. He also was a veteran of World War II, where he was awarded three Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star, serving in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1945.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at Paul Funeral Home, 240 North Kingshighway, St. Charles. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery, 2700 West Clay Street, St. Charles.
Among survivors are his wife, Ruth Smith of Kansas City; two sons, Michael Smith of St. Charles and Robert Smith of O'Fallon; two daughters, Connie Smith of Fulton, Mo., and Joan Uta of Kansas City; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
