In 1910, he was working as a laborer at Carnegie Steel in Homestead.
On May 5, 1915, he married Sarah 'Sadie' Sullivan in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The marriage was performed by the Rev. Phillip Moore at St. Agnes Church in Pittsburgh.
On January 1, 1917, Sarah gave birth to their first child, Lois. Michael and Sarah would have two more children: Dorothy (1918) and Harold (1920).
On June 5, 1917, Michael registered with the United States Draft Board. He gave his physical description as medium height and build; brown eyes; and dark hair. He gave his occupation as a machinist for the Carnegie Steel Company in Homestead.
In 1930, Michael separated from Sarah and was living in Homestead. Sarah was living at her brother's home.
On August 19, 1951, Michael had a heart attack and was taken to Homestead Hospital. He was declared dead at 11:00 AM. The cause of death was given as coronary occlusion, which is an obstruction of a coronary artery.
On Wednesday, August 22, 1951, Michael was laid to rest in the Coughlin family plot at St. Mary Magdalene Cemetery. His grave is unmarked.
