Jeremiah was born in Mercer Co., Ky, in Dec., 1826, at the age of 19 yrs. He was living in New Albany, Floyd Co., Indiana, where he had other family, unknown at this time. He enlisted in the Ind. 2nd Corps, and went to war in Mexico (1845 to 1846). He was wounded and suffered the rest of his life. He seemed to be unhappy with the Indiana boys' fighting skills, as he returned to Kentucky and reenlisted. After the war, he went back to Indiana, married Mary E. Rice and had 8 children (Including the creator's grandfather Robert T. Brown). He served as a sergeant in Co. C, 123rd Indiana Infantry, during the Civil War.

After Mary died he had 2 more wives and a daughter Edna M. who is buried next to him. He apparently had two daughters named Edna, as his last child with Mary was named Rose Edna. His nickname was Jere.
