Arden Avery Hangman was born April 6, 1918, in Newcastle, the son of Peter Alber and Inga (Nelson) Hangman. He married Ina Amelia Newton on Oct. 17, 1943, in South Sioux City. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army from Nov. 6, 1942 to Oct. 19, 1945. He farmed near Maskel all his life and moved to the Veterans Home in July of 1989. He was a member of Newcastle American Legion Post 62, the Hartington VFW Post 5283, and Faith Lutheran Church in Maskel. Survivors include his wife of Maskel; five sons, Odin "Shorty", Rodney, Lamont, Calvin, and Tim and three daughters, Diann, Patricia, and Tina.
