Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, April 29, 2016 at Salem Lutheran Church in Ponca, NE with Rev. Peter Speiser officiating. Burial will be in the Wakefield Cemetery in Wakefield, NE. Visitation will begin at 5:00 P.M., with the family present at 6:00 P.M. and a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. on Thursday, April 28, 2016 at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Mohr Funeral Home in Ponca.
Pearl was born in rural Maskell, NE on April 3, 1920, the daughter of Peter and Inga (Nelson) Hangman. She attended Grand Ridge Country School near Maskell and graduated from Maskell High School. Pearl married LaVerne E. Nelson on April 22, 1942. LaVerne passed away in 1976. She married Lawrence "Pete" Peterson on March 17, 1977. Pete passed away in 2006. Pearl was a homemaker.
She enjoyed visiting with family over coffee and sweets, loved to bowl and watch bowling, enjoyed playing cards, and she had a delightful sense of humor.
Survivors include her granddaughter, Kristin Tharpe of Charlotte, NC; step-son, Larry (Susie) Peterson of Kalispell, MT; a sister, Wanda (Vernon) Johnson of Waldron Arkansas; sister-in-law, Agnes Hangman of Napa, CA; and many nieces and nephews.
Pearl was preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Inga Hangman; her husbands, LaVerne Nelson and Lawrence Peterson; a daughter, LaVeryl Tharpe; grandson, John Tharpe, Jr.; brothers, Lafayette, Arden (Ina) and Norman (Maurine); and sisters, Dorothy (Donald) Arends and Gloria (Roy) Pfister.
