Louis served as a First Lieutenant and Co-Pilot on B-17G "Heavenly Body" #43-37776, 849th Bomber Squadron, 490th Bomb Group, 8th Air Force, during World War II.

He resided in Sussex County, Delaware prior to the war.

B-17G #43-37776 was on a night cross-country training exercise. After turning, just North of Nailstone, near Ibstock, the B-17's nose dropped, and the port wing struck the ground. The machine was completely destroyed by fire and explosion. Sadly, all on board were killed.

Louis was "Killed In Action" in this crash during the war.

He was awarded the Purple Heart.
