David served as a Staff Sergeant & Tail Gunner on B-17G #44-6328, 345th Bomber Squadron, 97th Bomber Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. He normally served with the 342nd Bomber Squadron but was assigned to the 345th for this mission.

He resided in New York County, New York prior to the war.

B-17G #44-6328 took off, with a crew of 11, from Amendola Field, Italy on a bombing mission over Fortezza Yards, Italy. On the first bombing run over the target B-17G #44-6328 was hit in the cockpit by ground anti-aircraft causing the B-17 to crash near Fortezza. The entire crew perished.

David was "Killed In Action" in this crash during the war.

He was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.

He was originally interred in Italy and was later repatriated here on November 13, 1949.
