James Albert Buerkens was born in Pella, March 15, 1876. His death on October 25, 1930, was caused by an accident received by a "hit and run" driver on Highway 63, one mile west of Pella.
The deceased was a son of the lata Barney Buerkens, and had lived in Pella all of his life; spending practically all of his time employed in his father's wagon factory in Pella.
In 1898 he was married to Maggie Slot. He leaves to mourn his loss, a wife and three children: Herbert, residing in Pella, Gladys, principal of the high school at Fenton, Iowa, and Clarence, superintendent of schools at Farragut, Iowa; also one grand child, Bonnie, daughter of C. C. Buerkens.
Besides these are a brother, Ed, living near Fairfield, Iowa, and two sisters: Mrs. Nettie Shaw, of Beloit, Wis., and Mrs. A. D. Ver Steeg, of this city.
