Mrs. B. Buerkens died at her home, 515 East First Street, at 11 p.m. Thursday, January 25, 1923, aged 80 years and 10 months. She had been in poor health for some time, but was acutely ill only about ten days before her death, cancer of the liver being the ailment. She is survived by two sons and two daughters, Ed of Fairfield, J.A. of Pella, Mrs. Art Ver Steeg of Pella, and Mrs. Nettie Shaw of Indianola. Mrs. Shaw has for some months been making her home with her mother and caring for her. Mrs. Buerkens was a native of Sweden, her girlhood name being Johnson. She has been a resident of Pella for nearly sixty years, her husband, who died on March 7, 1922, being a pioneer wagon maker in Pella, whose wagons are used over a wide territory. Funeral services were held at the home at three o'clock Saturday afternoon. Interment was at Oakwood Cemetery.
