Funeral Of Auto Victim Held At Abernathy Today

Funeral services will be held in Abernathy this afternoon at 4 o'clock for Mrs Sally A. Gould, 72, of that city, who died in Swisher County Hospital in Tulia last night as a result of injuries sustained when the car in which she was riding crashed into a truck 5 miles north of Kress. Mrs Gould was returning from Amarillo with her daughter and son-in-law, Mr and Mrs Robert D. Wade. The accident occurred at 12:45 o'clock Friday noon on the Swisher County detour between Kress and Tulia. Both drivers, according to reports, had been blinded by dust and collided head-on. The truck and car, which Wade was driving, were badly damaged. The truck is owned by McAdoo Mercantile Company of McAdoo in Dickens County. Mrs Wade suffered serious bruises and lacerations about the face and body. She and her mother were rushed to the Swisher County Hospital where Mrs Gould died Friday afternoon at 5 o'clock. Relatives said Saturday that the injured daughter was resting well but that her condition was so critical that she had not been told of her mother's death. Wade was only slightly injured, and none of several people who were riding on the truck was reported injured seriously. Mrs Gould is survived by her husband, James R. Gould of Abernathy, by one son, Robert Gould, of Plainview and Abernathy, and six daughters, Mrs Wade and Mrs Harry Engman of Amarillo, Mrs Rena Massey of Abernathy, Mrs L. T. Strong of Wellington, Mrs Myrtle Maxwell of Muleshoe, and Mrs M. A. Hartman of Mountainair, N M. The funeral will be conducted from the Abernathy Baptist Church, with the Rev C. C. Griffith in charge. Interment will be in the Abernathy Cemetery under the direction of the Lindsay Funeral Home Pallbearers will be Robert McCalister, Arson Rhea, Moses Holland, Johnson Riley, W. C. Jenkins, and N. C. Hicks.- Plainview Daily Herald Sunday June 15, 1934
