Surviving family members include, brothers, Melvin Sterner and his wife Gwen Laurie of Farmington Hills, Michigan, Fred Sterner and his wife Bettie of Kalkaska, Michigan.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Mildred (Russian) Sterner, brother, Wilfred A. Sterner and sister, Ethel Leighton.
