Obituary for Fredrick William Sterner

Frederick William Sterner, 94, of Kalkaska, passed away on December 24, 2017 at Hackley Hospital in Muskegon.

Mr. Sterner was born on July 1, 1923 in Detroit, to the late Fred and Lavina (Wurm) Sterner.

Fred served in the US Navy during World War II and was stationed at Pearl Harbor following the attack. He worked as a pipe fitter for Ford Motor Company. Fred enjoyed golfing, playing cards, church, and spending time with friends. He belonged to St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Kalkaska, and Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Muskegon.

Fred is survived by his wife Bettie, daughter Denice (Wesley) Wegner, grandchildren: Benjamin (Stacey) Wegner, Jeremy (Melissa) Wegner, and Rachel Wegner; great grandchildren: Avery, Madison, Hannah, Rebekah, and Carissah; and his brother Melvin Sterner who turned 101 years old this year.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his siblings: Ethel Leighton, Wilfred Sterner, and Walter Sterner. Visitation will be at 10 AM on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Kalkaska. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM, with Pastor Eric Black presiding.

Burial will take place at Evergreen Cemetery in Kalkaska. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church 2470 Beebe Rd., Kalkaska, MI 49646 or to Camp Arcadia, 3046 Oak St., Arcadia, MI 49613. Arrangements have been entrusted to Kalkaska Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
