William was born about 1838 in Monroe County, Virginia, son of Rachel Tigert and David G. Baker. William was a Confederate soldier during the Civil War and died of typhoid fever while a Confederate prisoner in Elmira, New York in 1865.
After William died, Amanda remarried to Jacob Watson Bare on January 26, 1871 in Monroe County, West Virginia and had children Marsha, Fannie Bell, Frank Watson, Mary J., and Hubert Tudor Bare.
