PFC Howard C. Wade, killed in battle in North Africa. He was 31, the son of Leo Wade. He was single. He leaves his father and two brothers, Chris and Bob Wade.
[Notes: Pfc., 142nd Infantry, 36th Infantry Division, World War II. According to Wikipedia, the division first saw action on September 9. 1943, the day Howard died, when it landed by sea at Paestum on the Gulf of Salerno against intense German opposition which might lead to the assumption that Howard died in Italy, not North Africa. His unit was attached to the North African theater of Operations.
It is unknown if Howard is buried here in Richland Cemetery. His father applied for a military headstone 8/17/1948 to be sent to the cemetery. As of 11/2014, family a member indicated that Howard is in fact buried at Richland although it was several years after his death.]
Howard also has a memorial cross in the Veterans Section of Maple Hill Cemetery with other fallen soldiers from Wayne County.
