San Francisco, Jan. 7 -- Mrs. Edith Garrigues Hawthorne, daughter-in-law of Nathaniel Hawthorne, nineteenth century American novelist, died here Wednesday. She was 73. Mrs. Hawthorne was the widow of Julian Hawthorne, only son of the famous New England writer and himself a novelist and journalist. Julian died in 1934.
