Samuel emigrated to Grand Rapids, MI, arriving in New York on the SS Rotterdam II on April 26, 1889. He was naturalized on September 29, 1900. He married Anna Slager on Nov. 6, 1894, and they had 15 children (the first survived only 5 days). From about 1910-1935, the family owned a celery and onion farm near Moline, MI. After Anna's death in 1943, he married Mary Reus and lived in Grandville.
