Susanna Dodson Roddy
Susanna was born 10 Feb 1892 on the family ranch in Live Oak County, Texas, to Milton Dodson and Susan Burris Dodson. She was the youngest of their 9 children and her young life revolved around the ranch and family. Music was an important part of their lives, too. At her ranch school, she reported the teacher taught the three "R's", but also taught organ, violin and flute. Her mother was a good pianist and often said "as long as one had music, he could do without food". In addition, her mother was an excellent seamstress and made all the dresses and suits for her family. Susanna learned these skills, as well. In her later years, Susanna gave piano lessons to support herself.
Susanna remained on the ranch until 1917 when she married Dr George Henry Roddy, an osteopath, who had been raised in nearby Alice, TX. After their marriage, he took a job in Kewanee, IL, where their daughter Mary Catherine was born. The family then returned to South Texas where Dr. Roddy practiced in Corpus Christi. Daughter Henrietta was born there. The couple raised their children in Corpus Christi where Dr. Roddy died in 1956. Susanna died there on 16 Nov 1973, survived by her two daughters and five grandchildren.
