(1898 - 1955)

Edward M. Scherer, 57, lifelong Manitowoc County resident who lived at 1322 S. 18th St., Manitowoc, died Wednesday morning at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc, after a lingering illness.

Funeral services will be held at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, and at 9 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church. The Rev. John Landowski will officiate and burial will e in the church cemetery.

Mr. Scherer was born Jan. 18, 1898, in the Town of Newton and in 1920 married Monica Skrzypczy. For the past 27 years he had been employed by the Manitowoc Shipbuilding Inc. During World War I, from 1917 to 1919, he served with Company G of the 162nd Infantry in France. He was a member of the Holy Name Society, the Drews-Bleser American Legion post and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Surviving are his wife, two sons, Alfred and Daniel of Manitowoc and a brother, George of St. Nazianz.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Friday where the Rosary will be recited at 7:15 p.m. Friday. Military rites will be conducted at the graveside by the VFW.
