Bessie Irby Simpson, age 87 of Gretna, died Monday, April 4, 2011 at the residence of her granddaughter in Hurt.

Born November 27, 1923 in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of the late Luther Irby, and Annie Dalton Irby.

She was predeceased by her husband Caril Douglas Simpson; three brothers, Eugene Irby, William Irby, Sr., and Calvin Irby, Sr.; and two sisters, Beatrice Vedder, and Sara DeJarnette.
