Clarence L. Jackman

DANSVILLE - Clarence L. Jackman, 88, formerly of Twin Drive in Dansville, passed away early Tuesday morning, Jan. 23, 2007, at Noyes Memorial Hospital, Dansville.

Clarence was born in the Town of Hornellsville on May 1, 1918, a son of the late Everett Earl and Mary Elizabeth Snyder Balcom. On Jan. 12, 1946, he married Viola Sherwood Jackman, who survives.

Clarence was a U.S. Army WWII veteran, serving with the 121st Field Artillery Battalion from 1942 to 1945 in New Guinea, Luzon and the southern Philippines. He was employed at the former Foster Wheeler Energy Corp. plant in Dansville for more than 43 years, retiring in 1982.

Clarence was a member of the Dansville United Methodist Church, where he served on the board of trustees and the leadership of Boy Scout Troop 49. He was a member of Daniel Goho Post #87 of The American Legion, IAM Local #1665, and the 25 year club at Foster Wheeler.

Besides his parents, Clarence was predeceased by two brothers, Al and Earl Balcom; his stepfather, Sam Hosier; and a grandson, Brett Jackman. He is survived by his wife Viola; a son, Richard (Susan) Jackman of Colorado; a sister, Ruth Black of Dansville; two grandsons, David Jackman of South Carolina and Kyle Jackman of Colorado; and several nieces and nephews.

There were no prior calling hours. A memorial service took place at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Dansville United Methodist Church, with the Rev. James Stevens officiating. Interment was in Ossian Center Cemetery, Ossian. Arrangements were by Hindle Funeral Home Inc., 271 Main St., Dansville.

Friends may make memorial contributions to the Dansville United Methodist Church, 5 Chestnut Ave., Dansville, NY 14437.
