HURTS FATAL TO MRS. M'BETH, 85
Local Woman, Pioneer Resident, Injured in Auto Accident, Dies In Terre Haute
Mrs. Sarah Jane McBeth, age 85, widow of David McBeth, former Clinton resident, died Sunday morning at the Union hospital, Terre Haute, from injuries sustained last Thursday when she was struck by a city street car at Eleventh street and Wabash avenue. Mrs. McBeth lived alone at 419 South Fourth Street following the death of her husband, on Sept. 30, 1926.
Mrs. McBeth, the mother of Mrs. Mary E. Nash, who teaches violin in Clinton, lived in Clinton for many years. She first came here as the bride of David McBeth in 1810. Mr. McBeth was very well known in and around Clinton as he was prominently identified with the city from 1870 until 1913, when he and his wife moved to Terre Haute, He was a harness maker here and then established a brick yard across the street from the county hospital here.
Age Hurried Death.
Mrs. McBeth was taken to the hospital on Thursday. Because of her advanced age she was unable to recover from the shock and injuries suffered in the accident.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Nash and Mrs. J., A. Wilson of Portland, Ore.; two brothers, R. A. Burns and Clarence Burns, and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren also survive.
The body was brought to Frist's Funeral Home Sunday and will remain there until noon Tuesday, when it will be removed to the local Presbyterian church. The body will lie in state from noon until 2 o'clock Tuesday, when the casket will be closed and the funeral services conducted. The Rev. Tyler of the Terre Haute Presbyterian church will officiate. Burial is to be in the Riverside cemetery in the McBeth family lot.
Funeral services for Mrs. McBeth are identical with those held five years ago for Mr. McBeth, whose body too, was returned to the Clinton church.
A special section in the church is to be reserved for the members of the Rebekah lodge. The body may be viewed until noon tomorrow at Frist's.
