About 1844, Mary was married to John W. Harsha in Pennsylvania. They had five children: Sarah Jennie, William F., John G., Harry S. and Samuel Oscar. John Harsha died shortly after Samuel's birth in 1855 near their home in Ohio.
Mary's second husband was Prof. Elijah Burns, who was a teacher of language. Mr. Burns had several children by his first wife who died. His children and Mary's all lived in Traverse City, Grand Traverse, Michigan. Elijah died in 1870 and Mary died 7 Mar 1908.

Mrs. Mary P.Burns, aged 83, died at the home of her son, William F. Harsha , 902 Union street, Saturday morning at 11:20. She had been ill for some time with cancer of the stomach. She was born in Allegheny county, Pennsylvania, March 19, 1825, and moved to Ohio sometime later.. She was united in marriage twice, both husbands having died. Mrs. Burns moved to northern Michigan in 1873, and since that time has been a resident of Elk Rapids, Charlevoix and this city, moving here in 1878, where she has since resided.
The following are children who survive her: Supervisor W. F. Harsha of this city; H. S. Harsha, Charlevoix; Mrs. David McBeth, of Clinton, Ind.' R. A. Burns, Broadlands, IL.; Ed M. Burns, Chicago and Clarence M. Burns of this city. She also leaves one brother, W. H. Fife of this city, and four sisters, one in Marshall Michigan, one in Iowa and two in Pennsylvania.
The funeral was held from the residence of her son, 902 south Union street, Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock'. Interment was made at Oakwood.
