William was the son of John Harsha and Mary Fife. He worked as a real estate agent. He died from tuberculosis of the lungs.

"The funeral of William Fife Harsha was held from the residence on Twelfth street yesterday afternoon at 2 o'clock. It was largely attended by his former business associates and friends. The services were conducted by the Rev. Dennis Cochlin. Burial was in Oakwood.

William F. Harsha was a pioneer resident of Grand Traverse region and died at his home, 112 E. Twelfth street, Wednesday morning at 7:00 o'clock. Mr. Harsha came to this region from Ohio in the early sixties. For several years he had charge of the stage from Cadillac and Traverse City, there being no railroads at the time. After the coming of the G.R.& I, he took charge of the mail route between Traverse City and Charlevoix. Later he located in Elk Rapids, where he was one of the proprietors of what was known as the "Harsha House". "

About the year 1876, he established a real estate business in the old Leach building. In 1880, he married Miss Isabelle Cameron of Elk Rapids, who lived only three years after their marriage.

Mr. Harsha took an active interest in all movements for the good of the community. He was for many years supervisor of his ward in Traverse City, giving up his work only when ill health forced him to do so.

He leaves a sister, Mrs. David McBeth of Terre Haute, Indiana who with her husband was in the city to attend the funeral; also, a brother, Horace S. Harsha, of Charlevoix, the latter and his wife have been in the city several weeks caring for his brother during his illness.
