----------

Elizabeth Wyld Stanborough was born in 1863 to Daniel Wyld and Elizabeth Darcy Wyld (NSW Registry: Registration Number 11194/1863).

Elizabeth's home life was tumultuous, and she ran away from home as a teen. In an effort to force her return, her father ran a notice in the local newspaper. In it, he warned that anyone found providing aid to her would be prosecuted. The notice was successful; Elizabeth returned home. She ran away again a few years later, and this time returned expecting her first child. She identified Zachariah Stanborough as the father.

After the birth of Elizabeth's first child, Henry, her father had Zachariah arrested for abandoning his illegimate child. Zachariah was then offered the choice of marriage or jail. He chose marriage, and they wed on 20 Jul 1882 (NSW Registry: Registration Number 5950/1882).

Elizabeth died on 25 May 1908 (NSW Registry: Registration Number 6430/1908). Cause of death was "thrombosis of femoral vein with pulmonary embolism," and was probably sudden and unexpected. Though her headstone states her age was 42 years at death, she was actually 45 years old.

Elizabeth's grave is located in Anglican Section 1. She shares a headstone with her infant grandson Freddie, who died at 1 day old.

Henry "Harry" Stanborough (1882-1965)
