MR. J. F. Arrowood of Rutherfordton
Special to the Observer
Rutherfordton, Nov. 16 - Mr. John F. Arrowood, one of Rutherfordton's best citizens, died at his home on West Court street yesterday morning, after an illness confining him to his home three or four weeks. His sudden demise was unexpected at this time and came as a shock to his family and friends.
Mr. Arrowood was a native of Gaston county and came to this town during the year 1879, since which time he has been prominent in affairs affecting the welfare and upbuilding of Rutherfordton.
He was a mechanic by trade and up to about fifteen years ago was engaged in the manufacture of wagons and buggies, when he became partially paralyzed and was forced to retire from this his chosen profession. For the past ten or twelve years, however, he has been engaged in the mercantile business with Mr. Lester Duncan, near Coxe's crossing, and under the firm name of Arrowood & Duncan has done a thriving business. He was married to Miss Jennie Clark, also of Gaston county, in the year 1899 (1879), whom with his aged father, Mr. William Arrowood, three sisters, Mesdames Thomas Damron of Bessemer City, Robert Willis of Lincoln county, Rufus Kiser of Gaffney, S. C. and five brothers, Messrs. D. M. and L. C. Arrowood of Bessemer City, Rev. W. B. Arrowood of Clover, S. C.; Rev. R. C. Arrowood of Hemp and Rev. M. C. Arrowood of Rougemont, this State, survive.
His body was interred at Long Creek Presbyterian church, near his old home in Gaston county, today. Rev. S. L. Cathey of Mount Holly, his former pastor, conducting the services.
