"Silas Socrates Nauman, son of John Nauman, was born Aug. 20, 1854, and died April 30, 1930. He came to Holt County Missouri from Page county, Virginia and there married Belle Bird. She died April 5, 1933.

Silas Socrates Nauman, son of John and Lucy Anne Nauman, as born near Luray, Virginia, Aug. 20, 1854. There he grew to manhood and in his early twenties he came to Missouri to live and chose the Mound City community in which to make his home. It was here that he met and marrid Miss Isabelle Bird in the year 1879. The happy couple settled on a farm near Mound City where they made their home for many years. Later in life they moved into Mound City and it was their home in this city where Mr. Nauman departed this life, April 30, 1930 at the age of 75 years, 8 months, and 10 days. His health had been gradually failing for some time and death came as a merciful release from his suffering.

To this union six children were born, four sons and two daughters, Elzena May, Amos B., James William, Emmett Franklin, Maud Elizabeth, and Earnes Hobart. Of the six children only two are now living, namely, Mrs. Elzena Gorman, Craig, MO, and Amos B. Nauman of Mound City, MO. Besides his wife and two children he leaves to mourn his departure, one brother, Erasmus Nauman, Colbert, Washington; one sister, Mrs. Barbara Judy, Mound City; ten grandchildren; five great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and other relatives and a great host of friends.

Mr. Nauman was a member of the Christian Church in Mound City having made the confession of his faith in Christ at the Summit School house many years ago and later becoming one of the charter members of the Summit Christian Church where his membership remained until he moved to Mound City. Brother Nauman loved his church and was intesnely active as a member until his health failed him. The influence of his great Christian aith and life will live on in the lives of many people who have been blessed by his kindly and faithful ministry.
