James Bird, eldest son of John Bird, died at Fairview hospital near Lexington, Virginia. On the 26th day of December 1863. He was taken off by inflammation of the bowels, after having been long afflicted with dyspepsia. He was a member of Company E, 31st Regiment of Virginia Volunteers. J.C. Matheny, Capt.
