Zolectus Toby "Lec" Mann, 87, of Piney View, West Virginia, died at 9:25 P.M. Thursday, February 04, 1965, at a local hospital, after a three month illness.
Mann a retired miner and farmer was born March 08, 1877 at Cullman, Alabama. He was the son of James Whitfield "Whit" and Lydia George "Georgie" (Ward) Mann.
Mann married his first wife Emily Otelia Peek on July 24, 1898 at her father's residence (A.J. Peek) in Cullman, Cullman County, Alabama with Rev. Telman Powell officiating. Of that marriage five children were born, 3 girls and 2 boys. In order of age they were Irene Brock, Vera George, Gladys Vashti, Romalos Fuller, and Lotus Lee Mann. After their marriage, they moved to Texas, and then relocated to Oklahoma where they raised their family.
Sometime in the mid 1940's, Mann moved from Oklahoma to West Virginia where in worked in the coal mines, and farmed. Mann met and married his second wife Louverna "Vernie" Wiseman in 1957 at Raleigh County, West Virginia.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Vernie Mann; a son, Lotus Lee Mann, Napoleonville, Louisiana; two daughters, Mrs. Irene Brock Thompkins, Vernon, Texas and Mrs. Vera George Wood, Maud, Oklahoma; two brothers, Albert and Theophilus Roosevelt Mann, both of Alabama; two sisters, Mrs. Lydia P. Howard and Mrs. Mary Alzada Moore, both of Alabama.
The viewing of the body will take place at the Webb and Neal Funeral Home Saturday afternoon February 06, 1965, for relatives and friends. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 P.M. Sunday, February 07, 1965, at the Webb and Neal Funeral Home Chapel, 471 Vance Drive, Beckley, West Virginia, with the Rev. Arlene Spencer of Lanark officiating. Active pallbearers will be James R. Smith, Jack Smith, Harry Fischer, Douglas Johnson, William Bonner, and Gilbert Flanner. Burial will follow the service at the Clay Cemetery at Eccles.
