Stanley M. Johnson, 91, formerly of Lebanon passed away on Monday, March 17, at the Adventist Medical Center in Portland.

Stanley was born in Outlook, Mont., the son of Selmer and Alice (Livdahl) Johnson. He graduated from Plentywood High School in Plentywood, Mont., and attended Montana State University in Bozeman. He married Margaret Jean Hess in Antelope, Mont., on June 1, 1945. In 1947, the couple moved to Lebanon where he resided until 2010. He worked for Cascade Plywood, Champion International and US Plywood in Lebanon for a combined 37 years, retiring in 1988.

Stanley had many hobbies such as amateur (HAM) radio operator, reading (especially western novels), avid computer user, traveling to many places, including several trips to Europe, and snowbirding to Apache Junction, Ariz., for nearly 20 years. He was a die-hard sports fan of the Blazers, Mariners, Seahawks and Oregon college teams. He had a passion for music which included playing the bass guitar in local bands (with Margaret on the piano), sang bass for 30 years in the Pacific Northwest Norwegian Male Chorus, the Thorsmen of Salem. In addition, Stan and Margaret performed with their five children for many events around Oregon, including many appearances on a KPTV program called "The Stars of Tomorrow" in the early 1960s.

He and Margaret owned Marstan Publishing Company and published their own original music. They were founding members of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Lebanon. After moving to Portland, he attended Gethsemane Lutheran Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret in 2009; daughter Rita Deetz; three brothers and one sister.

He is survived by four sons, Irvin of Vancouver, Wash., Lloyd of Aurora, and Dean and Lyle Johnson, both of Gresham; and six grandchildren.

A viewing will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Monday, March 24, at Huston-Jost Funeral Home. A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Lebanon IOOF Cemetery. A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 29, at Gethsemane Lutheran Church, 11560 S.E. Market St., Portland.
