Mrs. Stanley died Thursday, November 29, 2007. Born in Conway, SC, she was a daughter of the late Alton Ernestine and Pauline Elizabeth Elliott Stroud. Paula began her adult life in Hartsville 23 years ago when she was called as the interim music minister at Lakeview Baptist Church. Under the leadership of Dr. Donald C. Purvis, Lakeview welcomed Paula with open arms - as did the community. Paula's heart of gold and love for Jesus Christ is evident in her many accomplishments during her short life. Paula was the creator, director, and producer of the very successful HARTSVILLE EASTER FESTIVAL and the SINGING CHRISTMAS TREE. She was a recipient of the James F. Byrnes Scholarship award, Shaw Fine Arts Award, and a 1999 recipient of the Belle of Courage Award. She was also chosen as an Outstanding Young Woman of America, served as a trustee of Anderson College, graduated in 1984 from Presbyterian College with a Bachelor of Arts degree, and also graduated in 1986 from Presbyterian College with a Bachelor of Science degree.
Surviving are her husband, Billy Stanley of Hartsville, SC; son, Noah Stanley of Hartsville, SC; daughters, Hannah Stanley of Hartsville, SC, Mary Rion (Dave) Spangler of Hilton Head, SC; brother and sister-in-law, Billy and Tammy Stroud of Nichols, SC.
