Oldest Citizen Had Lived in Madison County 55 Years
F. W. Fuson of Winterset, died at a nursing home here last Wednesday, Aug. 10. Madison county's oldest citizen, he died at 99 years, only a few months short of reaching the full century mark.
Mr. Fuson had been a resident of Madison county for 55 years. He was a native of Polk county where he was born March 29, 1856, a son of William and Nancy Fuson. He was married Feb. 12, 1880 to Amanda Jane Spurgeon at Grenola, Kan. They made their home in Polk county until 1900, when they moved to a farm in Webster township. In 1920, they came to Winterset. Mrs. Fuson died just 10 months ago.
He was active in the Oak Grove church during his residence in Webster township. After coming to Winterset, he and his wife united with the Winterset Methodist church here. Until he was 90 years old, he walked to church each Sunday from his home in southwest Winterset.
After Mrs. Fuson's death, he made his home with a daughter, Mrs. Ray Binns, until recent weeks when he was transferred to the nursing home.
He leaves seven children, Delbert Fuson of Tacoma, Wash., Vernon Fuson of Truro, Mrs. Tina Bogue of Anacortes, Wash., Claude Fuson of Nampa, Ida., Lester and Guy Fuson of Des Moines and Mrs. Binns of Winterset. He also leaves 29 grandchildren; 47 great grandchildren; two great grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Cora Kuhns of Regina, Saskatchewan, Can.; and two brothers, Will Fuson of Seattle, Wash., and Jay Fuson of Santa Cruz, Calif.
Funeral services were held Saturday from the Winterset Methodist church, conducted by the pastor, the Rev. W. W. Steinmetz. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
