Isabel CRANCE was born January 10, 1828, in Sullivan County, Indiana; died February 27, 1903. She was the daughter of Jesse BENEFIELD and Helen HADDEN BENEFIELD. She was united in marriage to Sears CRANCE, who was born in New York. To this union was born ten children, seven sons and three daughters. Seven arrived at the age of maturity. Of this large family all have preceded her to the Sprit land, excepting one daughter, Miss Amy, who cared for and nursed her mother very tenderly during these last years of old age and painful sickness. In her youth she united with the Christian church. She was left a widow with seven small children to raise, which she did, and also raised one grandson, Dr. Daniel G. WALKER, of Lindsay, Neb. She leaves one child, four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. One grandson, Lee CRANCE, who resides near her, was a great comfort to her. She would welcome his visits with a smile and say, “Oh, yes, it’s my boy, Lee.” The others were deprived of the pleasure of visiting her much on account of living so far away. She and her husband settled on a farm in Fairplay Township, and she continued to reside there till her death, since a period of more than fifty years. Aunt Ibbie, as she was familiarly called, was a good neighbor, and kind to the needy. She never turned the hungry from her door without help. She will be missed and long remembered by her neighbors. Her last moments were passed easily and she gently and calmly fell asleep to awake in that better world, where we hope she will meet her loved ones, and where there are so many waiting to welcome mother. Buried Dixon Cemetery.
