Elias CRANCE was born November 7, 1846 and died September 8, 1901. At about the age of twenty-five he married Elizabeth JAMISON, and to them were born two children, Lee and Ollie (now Mrs. Frank NEWSOM), both of whom, with the wife, survive him.

His ancestors were among the pioneers of this country and for nearly a century the CRANCES have been good citizens of this community. He was a loving and indulgent husband and father, a kind and consistent neighbor and friend, and remarked when near the close that he had been blest through life, and in the final great struggle, with a kind and loving family and devoted friends and neighbors, who had done everything that could be done to prolong his life and alleviate his sufferings, for all of which he wished to express his appreciation and his thanks. He was never ambitious, but always industrious and built up for himself a loving and happy family home. He died in the full realization of a reward for the good he had done and in his last hours, as he himself declared, being the happiest of his life, saying that the good Lord had opened the way and he was willing to go. The sentiment, “A good man is gone” will express the feeling of all who knew him. His remains were followed to their last resting place in the Dixon Cemetery by a vast concourse of his neighbors who thus paid their last tribute of respect to him, who in life they honored and loved.
