Former Resident Funeral Services
Funeral services were held from Collins Funeral Home last Wednesday morning for Mrs. Bessie Corkill, a former Madison county resident. Mrs. Corkill, 89, died at a hospital in Waukegan, Illinois, Monday June 5th where she had been living in recent years. Services were held at 10 a.m. with Rev. Newton Coughenour officiating. Burial was in the Winterset cemetery.
Mrs. Corkill is survived by one daughter, Mrs. George Garrett of Waukegan and three grandchildren, Neal, Susan and Charles Garrett. She was the widow of the late Rev. Charles Corkill, who served in the Methodist churches in this community for several years. Mrs. Corkill had made her home in Winterset following his death.
Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Powers entertained the relatives who were here from a distance to attend the services at lunch at noon. They included Mr. and Mrs. George Garrett and family of Waukegon, Illinois, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Imes of Dickens, Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. George Burns and family and Mildred Powers of Indianola, Mrs. Madolyn Wright of Des Moines, Ralph Imes, Orma Howard, Jennie Sayre and Beulah Alcox of St. Charles. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Powers and Mr. and Mrs. Richard Truckenbrod and children were additional guests.
