ALVA SIEGFREID
On Saturday afternoon a large group of friend’ and neighbors of Mr. A. Siegfried gathered at his home in Eagle Valley to pay their last respects and hear from the wonderful Words of God, the promises made to those who morn-Matt. 5:4-also many other passages of scripture were read by the Rev. M. D. Straney, who conducted the services in a very impressive way., comforting the mourners with the promises of the Lord, of his coming, and the re-union of loved ones “where parting is no more and where there is neither sorrow or tears”. “Nearer My God to Thee” was one of the hymns sung, and friends gathered around the grave and Rev. Straney made a few appropriate remarks, all joined in singing “God be with you till we meet again”
Mr. Alva Siegfried, son of Isaac and Mary Siegfried was born in the State of Iowa, U.S.A., and passed away at the Holy Cross Hospital in Calgary on Wednesday, June 20 th, at the age of 44 years, 7 months and 22 days.
His boyhood days were spent with his parents on their farm in Iowa. At the age of 15 years he started out in a life for himself on an adjoining farm in Iowa. Three years later he went west and worked some years on the irrigation ditches of Colorado, then to Wyoming, where he worked on a cattle ranch till the year 1900, when he engaged in a similar occupation in Montana. In the fall of 1903 he came to Alberta with a number of friends from Montana, and the next year he filed on the place where he resided till the time of his death.
On Dec. 23, 1905 he was united in marriage to Miss Rose Reed, daughter of Mr. And Mrs. W. B. Reed, of Eagle Valley. This union was blessed with eight children, five of which died in infancy. The deceased is survived by his wife, Mrs. Rose Siegfried, and three children, Frank nine years, Myrtle, six years and Leroy, 2 years, two sisters, Myrtle and Sarah, and four brothers, Frank, Dan, Fred and Ben, all living in the States.
Mr. Siegfried came to this country as a Pioneer and has endeared himself to his many friends and neighbors, who learned with sorrow the news of his sudden death, and who have done all in their power to aid and comfort Mrs. Siegfried in her hour of sorrow.
