North - Esther Lou Cook, 78, of North, died Sunday, Oct. 1, 2006. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 4, at Bull Swamp Baptist Church with the Rev. Chuck Wells and the Rev. Darrell Boyleston officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The casket will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Pallbearers will be grandsons and Clay Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be nephews. Mrs. Cook was born in Calhoun County, a daughter of the late Henry and Lillie Mae Staley Zeigler. She was married to the late Jack Cook. She was a member of Bull Swamp Baptist Church, and a past member of Fellowship Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday School teacher, GA Leader, and faithful church worker in her younger years. She was retired from Stone Manufacturing Company. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister and dear friend to everyone she met. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends. She was predeceased by a son, Jimmy Cook; a grandson, Clint Cook; and a brother, Johnny Zeigler. Survivors include a son, Rodger (Nina) Cook, of North; four daughters, Rose Cook Melvin, and granddaughter Amanda and great-granddaughter Hailey, all of the home, Jackie (Henry) Gleaton, of Neeses, Deborah (Johnny) Bonnette, of Max Meadows, Va. and Lou Ellen (Mickey) Jeffcoat, of Wagener; three sisters, Vera Pound, of St. Matthews; Ella (Willie) Culler, of Aiken, and Emily (Glenn) Ashe, of Cordova; a brother, Bobby (Phyllis) Zeigler, of Virginia; grandchildren, Bobbie (Clay) Hodson, of North; Jennifer (Al) Fogle, of Cordova; Mike (Amy) Bonnette, of Anderson; Matt Bonnette, of Nashville, Tenn., Mitch (Keri) Jeffcoat, of North Augusta, Jeremy (Nila) Jeffcoat, and Rosanne Jeffcoat, all of Wagener, Summer and Jim Melvin, of Spartanburg; 10 great-grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews; and her devoted caregiver and buddy, Ms. Bernice Hill, of North. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m., Tuesday at Culler-McAlhany Funeral Home and other times at the home, 7363 North Road, North. The family would like to extend a special thanks to her doctor, Vann Beth Shuler, for taking care of her all these years, and also Dr. Julius Babb for his part in these last weeks.
