Mr. Gillis, 75, was the son of the late Norman and Atlas Braddy Gillis. He was a native of Soperton, GA; was retired from the National Guard after 25 years of service; a Methodist by Faith, and a full-time farmer. He was preceded in death by his two siblings, Grace Pollette and Carolyn Jones.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Iris Lowe Gillis of Soperton; a daughter, Linda (Gregg) Reece of Scott; a step-daughter, Holly (Roman) Joyce of Pembroke; two step-sons, Russell (April) Hinson of McRae and Josh Hinson of Soperton; one sister, Bobbie Thompson of Soperton; one granddaughter, Christi (Wes) Brantley; seven step-grandchildren, Will Hinson, Kaylyn Hinson, Blake Joyce, Garrett Joyce, Jenna Hinson, Laila Hinson and Trey Kight; two great-grandchildren, Cooper Poole and Camdyn Poole, and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
