He graduated from Shead Memorial High School in 1952. Later became the manager of the A&P in Lubec and was very active in his community and ran his own business for a number of years. He was also a member of the Masons and the Lion's Club. In May of 1999, after 25 years of service, he retired as Superintendent and Executive Secretary of the Roosevelt Campobello International Park, but remained on as a consultant.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Judith Ann Johnston of Calais; son, Henry W. Stevens Jr. and wife, Dana, of Sevierville, Tenn.; daughter, Paulette Y. Matthews and husband, James, of St. Stephen, New Brunswick, Canada; brothers, Arthur Stevens and wife, Denise, of Yarmouth and Kevin Stevens and wife, Elaine, of Whiting; two sisters, Nadine Whalen and husband, Tom, of Fitchburg, Mass., and Sonja Fongemie and husband, Dan, of North Fort Meyers, Fla., and Maine; special sister-in-law, Dorothy Stevens of Eastport; grandson, James B. Matthews Jr. of Kansas City, Mo.; three granddaughters, Lindsay M. Sander of Kansas City, Mo., Kristina Jennings of Uniontown, Ohio, and Jessica Karhoff of Uniontown, Ohio; four great-grandchildren, Audri, Ethan, and Owen Sander of Kansas City, Mo., and Hadley Jennings of Uniontown, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Henry was predeceased by his son, Arthur William Stevens; two brothers, David Stevens and Richard Stevens and his wife, Kayona; and sister, Joanne Brotheim.
